Project Location: Croix Des Bouquet, Haiti
Bon Samaritan Orphanage is home to approximately 75 children, aged zero to sixteen. The orphanage’s mission is to not only help the children survive, but thrive through education, nurturing and cultural enrichment. It is located less than 10 miles outside of Haiti’s capital city, Port-au-Prince.
The 2010 earthquake left Bon Samaritan Orphanage in disarray. In addition to significant structural damage, the earthquake also ravaged the nearby water wells. This forced the orphanage to become reliant on bi-weekly water deliveries from aid groups. In February 2011, Solar Liberty Foundation sent four solar cookers to the orphanage. The solar cookers have provided a consistent source of clean water to the children, thereby increasing self-reliance and significantly decreasing the transmission of water-borne diseases.
