Solar Electrification for Crossroads Springs Institute

Project Location: Hamisi, Kenya

Located in a rural district in western Kenya, Crossroads Springs Institute provides support to children who have been orphaned by HIV/AIDS. The mission of this orphan care center, founded by Dr. Meshack Isiaho in 2003, is to equip the children with the skills necessary to flourish into self-reliant, responsible adults. Currently, the school provides high quality primary education to over 300 AIDS orphans, 90 of whom board at the school. The Institute plans to begin construction on additional dorms soon, which will increase the number of students able to board at Crossroads Springs.

Solar Liberty Foundation plans to equip Crossroads Springs Institute with a complete solar electrification system. The system will provide lighting for security and reading in the evening hours, power for cooking and refrigeration, and electricity for their health clinic.
